The Context

In the face of a crisis or major industrial accident, stress often overtakes theory. That is why this unprecedented virtual reality exercise breaks the rules of passive awareness to immerse the worker or citizen directly in the heart of the alert.

Key Objectives of the Simulation

  • Acquisition of vital reflexes: Move from simple information to the embedding of immediate survival routines when the warning siren sounds.
  • Crucial distinction (Shelter-in-place vs. Evacuation): Learn to analyze the environment to instantly choose the right strategy: hermetic confinement (closing accesses, shutting down ventilation) or orderly evacuation.
  • Stress management in degraded situations: Evaluate and correct behaviors under pressure in a highly realistic industrial environment, without any real risk.

Who is this module for?

  • Employees and contractors operating on or near hazardous industrial sites (Seveso sites, chemical plants, refineries).
  • Local residents and the general public living near industrial zones (ideal for prevention campaigns and civil security).
  • Security teams and HSE referents wishing to train in full-scale crisis management.

The VR Experience Scenario

The learner is moving through their daily work environment when a PPI (Special Intervention Plan) siren sounds. Faced with visible crisis signals from the windows (such as large plumes of toxic smoke), the user must fight panic and shock. They will then have to quickly analyze the situation, call upon their memory of safety instructions, and execute the appropriate protocols (seal themselves in or evacuate) within a very short time and under pressure.

The Benefits of Virtual Reality

  • Emotional anchoring (Learning by doing): The immersion generates moderate stress that durably imprints the right reflexes, far beyond a simple safety booklet.
  • The right to make mistakes: The learner concretely and immediately visualizes the fatal consequences of a wrong choice, all in a 100% safe environment.
  • Performance measurement: Detection and correction of behavioral errors in real-time with a comprehensive educational debriefing at the end of the exercise.
